Seminar on engagement through Civil Society

On September 20 and 21, the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Yangon jointly organized a seminar for civil society organizations (CSOs) receiving Norwegian funding, as well as their partners. More than 80 people representing over 30 different CSOs attended the event.

The main goal of the seminar was to offer a broad range of CSOs the opportunity to network and exchange experiences. A central focus was how the role of civil society is changing with Myanmar’s democratization and peace processes. Emphasis was also put on Norwegian development policies and understandings of civil society. These topics were explored through talks given by Norad and Embassy representatives, invited guest speakers and speakers from the audience, as well as through workshops and plenary discussions.

Upon first impression, the seminar was a success. CSOs sharing links to Norway had the opportunity to strengthen relations and discuss synergies, and there were fruitful discussions about the future of Norwegian development assistance in Myanmar.

The Embassy would like thank all speakers and participants for contributing to the realization of our vision for the seminar.
